FIREFIGHTERS were called to a bedroom fire which is believed to have been started by a cigarette.
Crews from Bury attended the blaze in an upstairs bedroom of a house in Teak Street at about 7pm on Wednesday.
A mattress had caught on fire, with a packet of cigarettes and alcohol found nearby.
Crews used hose reels to make sure the blaze was out and removed the mattress from the house.
A young male was then taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "We believe this fire was started by a cigarette."
